Privacy policy

Collection and use of your personal information

Personal information is data that can be used to uniquely identify a certain individual. Here are some examples:

  • When you read a page on this website, your IP address is visible to the webserver (otherwise, it wouldn’t know whom to send the requested data);
  • When you contact me per email, your email client or provider typically sends your name, email address and IP address, along with the subject and body of your message;

I only use such data for the purposes of answering your question or request and to fulfill the relevant legal requirements.

I might also aggregate and analyse IP addresses and data about browser and operating system versions for statistical purposes, without trying to identify you in any way.

I do not use cookies, but Cloudflare might insert their own when serving the pages. Please read their privacy policy (linked below).

Disclosure to third parties

I use the services of external companies for hosting the website and email. These third-parties might be located in a different jurisdiction than you are and they normally have full access to the same data that I do, since everything happens on their servers – please read their privacy policies to understand how they might use your personal information:

Please note that email is normally not encrypted and it might be read by others on its way to destination through the Internet. Even if you encrypt an email with PGP, the headers of an email cannot be encrypted and will disclose its sender, intended recipient and subject.

I will also share the relevant personal information with the authorities when legally compelled to do so (e.g. by a court order, in the course of a legal investigation).

By continuing to access this website, or by contacting me, you implicitly agree with the sharing of your personal information, as described in this document.

Access to personal information

You can request the immediate deletion of all emails involving you (I normally delete emails around a week after the conversation stops). Even then, I will not delete any emails that might be relevant for a judicial investigation, for tax purposes or whose removal might otherwise contravene legal requirements or an eventual court order.

Even after deletion, your emails might still be available in the backup systems of my email provider – I have no control over what they do.

Protection of personal information

I take all reasonable measures to protect any personal information: use of TLS encryption, two-factor authentication, best practices with regards to operating system security. However, due to bugs in software and human failure, such protection can never be 100% guaranteed. Should unauthorized third parties gain access to your private information, I will do my best to limit the exposure and notify you about such incidents (unless legally required not to).

Minors

I do not knowingly collect personal information of minors, nor do I want to. Please contact me immediately at [email protected] if you are aware of such a situation.

This website might contain links to external websites. I have no control whatsoever about how they process or share your personal information. Please read their privacy policies carefully before sharing any data with them.

Changes to this privacy policy

I reserve the right to review and change this privacy policy at any time, without any explicit notification to you. You can use the Atom feed of the website to be notified of changes, or simply read the privacy policy again whenever you want.
